Summer isn’t over yet, but August is the perfect time to tackle a few simple maintenance tasks before cooler weather arrives. Spending just an hour or two now can help prevent costly repairs and make the transition into fall much smoother.

–  Clean your eavestroughs and downspouts so rainwater drains away from your home’s foundation.

–  Inspect your deck for loose boards, railings, or signs of wear before another season of use.

–  Book your annual furnace service before the busy fall rush arrives.

Many homeowners assume basement water problems are caused by foundation cracks, but that’s often not the case.

More commonly, moisture issues begin with clogged eavestroughs or poor grading around the home, allowing water to pool next to the foundation instead of draining away.

Keeping your gutters clear and ensuring water flows away from your home are two of the simplest and most effective ways to help prevent expensive water damage.
